Provider Spotlight: Introducing Laurie Eickhoff, DPT/CLT!
Laurie was drawn to physical therapy because she has always been interested in the medical field. Her father was a medical technologist, so she grew up learning and talking about medical topics. Initially she thought about attending medical school, but knew she wanted to be in the rehab aspect of patient care and helping people get back to their activities. She enjoys challenges, for example, patients who have tried multiple other treatment strategies with no success. She enjoys being able to work with them using different techniques and have them finally get relief after years of struggling with pain and getting them back to their normal activities. Laurie graduated with her Bachelor degree in Exercise Science from the University of Iowa in 1994, she received her Master of Physical Therapy from St. Ambrose University in 1999, and then received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Des Moines University in 2005. Laurie is a Certified Lymphedema Therapist as well as certified in dry needling. Her special interests include lymphedema and enjoys working with neck patients, total knee patients, and all orthopedic diagnoses. At Total Rehab, she loves getting to know her patients and their families and working with them to make sure they can do all their daily activities as well as work and recreational activities. To her, patients are not just a “body part” to work on- she looks at how everything works together and what they do for a living but especially what they like to do for fun and make their therapy relevant. Outside of seeing patients, Laurie enjoys boating, kayaking, bicycling, hiking, reading, cross-stitch as well as hanging out with her husband and two kids. Laurie’s primary location is in Sully and Grinnell.
